Do you have any idea how many resumes are being pushed in front of that hiring manager each day for that one job? A lot! What those hiring managers are looking for is to find a potential employee that fits into their system, but that also has the skills. Your resume can easily show your skills. But it can’t show who you are.

Why not make a simple video talking about who you are and why you want the job? You can do it in your kitchen or office, or at the park, or anywhere where you have some good lighting. Look into the camera and say something like, “Hi, my name is Vikram Jones and I’m 40-years-old and I live in New York City, on the Upper West Side. I’ve created this video to assist in my application for the position of Office Manager for XYZ Company, LLC. Here’s why I’m qualified for the position, etc.”

Now, upload that video to YouTube and on your cover letter put a link to the video. Or include the link in the email you send. Not many people do this. Why? Because it requires you to do a little bit of work and be a little creative. But the people who do do this are reaping the benefits because they’re able to get the attention of the hiring manager in a way that others are not. They’re able to create an immediate connection with the manager just by showing how they look, and talk and sound and in general, who they are.
